Sainsbury’s Local Charity Partner 2012-2013

Sainsbury’s are currently looking for the next charity to help for 12 months from June. The store is asking customers and staff to put forward the names of charities based in Bridgend that are important to them. Customers can vote up until May 23 by filling out a form and putting it into the Local Charity Partner voting box at the front of the store. Sainsbury’s Store manager Simon Lean said: “Our customers now have a fantastic opportunity to help us support another local charity which is close to many people’s hearts, so we hope they can help us in our search for your Local Charity Partner for 2012-2013″.Article taken from the Gazette 10th May 2012.

Fundraising Evening in Lewistown

On behalf of us all at Y Bont, we would like to offer our thanks to Gemma Jones, who organised a very succesful fundraising evening in Lewistown. We are very fortunate to have received £1,467.10 from the proceeds raised, which will be used to continue and improve the services offered by Y BONT on which local families rely.

Raising money is becoming more and more difficult and we rely heavily on the support of local people and groups to help keep Y BONT running.

We also have a volunteer team from Job Centre Plus coming to Y Bont next month to give the Centre a much needed ‘Make-Over’, therefore we are in need of supplies i.e Emulsion, Gloss, Turps, Paintbrushes etc – If anyone knows where we can source these items for ‘Free’ or at cheap discounted prices please could you get in touch. Panto in the Pub’s Sell Out Success!

For the second year running Panto in the Pub at Ye Olde Wine House (The Tap), was a sell-out success!

This year’s Adults only production of Snow White raised £550 for Y BONT.

Hilarious, hysterical, and unexpected, were only a few of the comments applied to the extremely innovative and imaginative script written by Linda Knight, who also narrated the performances.

Loosely based on the original Grimm’s fairy tale the 14 strong cast, led the audience through this modern day version of Snow white as the Tap was transformed from Pub to theatre for the two nights. The blend of live music, wild costumes, and all the usual panto routines including many local in-jokes made this a pantomime to remember!

Thanks must go to Landlord, Stephan Jones for supplying the cast with refreshments behind the scenes and during rehearsals. Many thanks too for those who provided sponsorship, donations, and assisted in many other ways with the production.

United Graphics

From the sale of the Christmas Cards that the Y Bont children designed themselves back in December 2011, we were all very excited to be presented with a cheque from United Graphics for £340.80 this week. Thanks to all the staff, families and local businesses for purchasing the cards and of course our biggest thanks to United Graphics for their continued support!

The Single Use Carrier Bags Charge

As you will be aware the Welsh Government introduced The Single Use Carrier Bags Charge (Wales) Regulations 2010, which came into force in Wales on 1st October 2011, and they urged retailers to give the income they receive from charging customers for carrier bags to ‘local good causes’.

Y Bont has been lucky to have received support during the first six months of the scheme from two local retailers, and we are hoping that there are more businesses that may come forward before the end of this initial year.

If you are a local Retailer/Take-away or know of any Shopkeepers that may be interested in supporting local children with disabilities by donating their income generated from the sale of carrier bags to Y Bont, we would love to hear from you.

We are able to provide collection boxes and a robust system to count and record the income received, which will help Retailers to maintain the Annual Records in accordance with the Welsh Governments guidance principles.
